Word Stressing

Next class bring a copy of this exercise to practise the accentuation notions of mono and polysyllabic words. Please, start working this task out, basing yourselves on Ortiz Lira's and Wells' notes. See you all!

PW on June, 17

Dear all,
Just a guideline of the activities and topics for the PW we discussed last class. Transcription including stresses as well as these features: aspiration (in its different uses); non-audible release; devoicing; dentalization; "dark /l/". The 7 basic tones to be represented on the staff applied to monosyllables and two-syllable words, with nucleus on the first and on the second syll. Theoretical work: Accent/Prominence (as discussed by Gimson and Wells); Wells' book - chapters 1 & 2.
